Off-site monitoring
Your alarm and cameras monitored off-site, day and night, so there's someone on the other end when something goes off. For homes and businesses.
Layer 2 Detection
An alarm only protects you if you actually set it. We place the sensors around how you use your home or business, so you can arm it at night without the dog setting it off.

Short answer
DBS Security installs alarm systems for homes and businesses in Roodepoort, the West Rand and northern Joburg: indoor sensors, outdoor beams, door contacts and panic buttons, planned around how you use the property. The alarm can be linked to DBS's 24-hour off-site monitoring. DBS is family-owned, PSIRA registered and run by Pieter and Marco de Bruyn.
Every alarm system has the same basic parts. What makes one work better than another is where they go and how they're set up.
Indoor sensors only go off once someone is already inside. They're essential when you're out, but at night you want to know sooner. Outdoor beams and sensors cover the yard, the side passages and the back of the house, so the alarm goes off while someone is still outside your walls or windows.
Most homes are best served by both, set up in zones. At night, you arm the outside and the empty rooms while you move freely in the bedrooms. When you leave, you arm everything. An electric fence on the wall adds a layer further out still, and it can feed into the same alarm panel.
False alarms are the quickest way to end up with a useless alarm. After the third night the siren goes off for nothing, people stop arming it, and the neighbours stop looking up.
False alarms usually come down to a few things: pets moving through a sensor's view, curtains moving in a draught, outdoor sensors pointed at trees or the street, and weak batteries in wireless parts. We choose and place sensors with those in mind. Tell us about your pets, how big they are and where they sleep, and we'll plan around them.
Many false alarms come from people, not sensors: a wrong code, a door opened before the alarm is off, or a domestic worker who was never shown the keypad. At hand-over, we take everyone who uses the alarm through it, not only the person who signed the quote. If a sensor keeps giving trouble afterwards, you phone Pieter or Marco.
A siren on its own relies on someone nearby hearing it and doing something. On a busy street, or when you're away for the weekend, that's a lot to hope for.
With 24-hour off-site monitoring, the alarm signal goes to people whose job is to watch for it, day and night. Because DBS fits the alarm and provides the monitoring, there's one company to call if something isn't working, not two companies blaming each other. You can add CCTV cameras to the same setup, so there's footage to look at when the alarm goes off.
We don't publish prices, because every property is laid out differently. These are the things that change the quote:
Already have an alarm? Tell Marco the make of the panel. He'll tell you straight whether it can be kept and linked, or whether it's time for a new one.
DBS Security is a family business with 25 years in the trade, owned by Pieter de Bruyn Jr and his son Marco. They handle every quote themselves, and a specialised technical team does the installation. Get a free quote for an alarm system, or see the areas we cover.
4 Steps
From your first message to the finished job.
We walk through the property with you, note the entry points and ask how you use each space.
Pieter or Marco sends a written quote that lists each sensor and where it goes.
Our technical team fits the panel, sensors, siren and communicator, and sets up the zones.
We test every zone with you and show you how to use the system day to day.
FAQ Questions we get
Something else on your mind? WhatsApp Marco or call the office on 011 768 0400.
Yes. An electric fence makes it hard to get over the wall and raises the alarm if it is cut, but it does not tell you if someone gets past it. An alarm with outdoor beams and indoor sensors covers the space between the wall and your bedroom. The two work best together.
Tell Marco the make and model of your alarm panel, or WhatsApp a photo of the keypad and panel. He will tell you straight whether DBS Security can keep it and link it to monitoring, or whether it makes more sense to replace it.
Not if the system is planned for it. Pet-friendly sensors and careful placement let dogs and cats move around without triggering the alarm. Tell us how many pets you have, how big they are and where they sleep, and we will plan the sensors around them.
Alarm panels have a backup battery that keeps the system running when the power goes off. How long it lasts depends on the battery and how many devices it powers. An old battery is a common reason an alarm goes quiet or starts beeping during a power cut.
It depends on the size and layout of the property, the number of zones, indoor versus outdoor sensors, wired or wireless parts, pets and whether you want monitoring. DBS Security walks through the property first and then gives you a free, written quote.
Yes. DBS Security offers 24-hour off-site monitoring, so your alarm signal goes to people watching for it day and night, not only to the siren on your wall. Because DBS also installs the alarm, one company handles both.
